Charcoal Skies
04:40
|

Place aside
All the things you’re thinking.
Close your eyes.
I’ll be there when you wake up.
For now the day's behind you —
You drift into a dream.
The scattered empty bottles
Frame the evening's closing scene.
As the day
Breaks its tired company with us,
Rest evades
the echoes of the words you didn’t say.
For now the day's behind you.
You drift into a dream.
The scattered empty bottles
Frame the evening's closing scene.
Over charcoal skies,
Reason floats away.
How it passes by,
Fading with the day.
Over charcoal skies,
Reason's floating,
And I can't make it stay.
Now, with the sun’s dying rays
See the landscape of living
unfold as it may.
So please, I need you to hear me.
You’re the rock, the foundation, my sole indication
That love lying lost does not die.

July
05:15

Why do the seasons always come too soon?
It’s harder to see just what they mean.
You feel like an animal licking your wounds
In front of the television screen.
There once was a time you had it figured out.
There once was a time you had a plan.
But you’re treading water in the ocean now,
Looking for somewhere you can stand.
You sit in the breeze,
Summer’s in the air.
Wish that you were somewhere else,
But you don’t know where.
Left all alone,
And all you do is try.
Look outside and still you feel
Like it’s not July.
Soon it occurs to you you’ve lost your way.
You’ve got now shelter or disguise.
Alone with a microphone and nothing to say,
In front of a sea of judging eyes.
And if they discover that you’re weak or you’re lame,
If your lips or your heartstrings are too loose,
They’ll crush you and tear all of the flesh from your frame,
And put your bones to better use.
You scream at the wind;
The wind screams back at you.
Wish that you were someone else,
but you don’t know who.
Left all alone,
And all you do is try.
Look outside and still you feel
Like it’s not,
Like it’s not,
No,
Looking high, for something you can’t find,
But you just can’t let it go.
It’s alright, you’ve got something on your mind,
Now take it slow.
You sit in the breeze,
Summer’s in the air.
Wish that you were somewhere else,
But you don’t know where.
Left all alone,
And all you do is try.
Look outside and still you feel
Like it’s not July.

Tightwire
04:05
|
|||
Smoke and mirrors make the whole world clearer.
Illusion comes and swallows you whole.
Reason cheats me, I lose myself completely,
I have no control.
She’s a silhouette, skinny shadow climbing up the wall,
Covering my eyes ‘til it’s dark and I can’t see at all.
I’m crawling through a tunnel towards the light,
Looking for a feeling, but the feeling just ain’t right.
Days and nights all going by so fast,
I sit alone for hours, but the panic doesn’t pass.
Try to speak,
But everyone around me just looks at me like I’m speaking in tongues.
Think I’m dreaming ‘til I notice I’m awake.
Now I’m all alone screaming at the top of my lungs.
The world is sinking fast,
Gotta find a way right out of here.
Darkness drops again,
I can feel the water drawing near.
In a dream, I’m suddenly aware
I’m standing on a tightwire high up in the air.
Shaking legs just long for solid ground.
I am tired, I am frightened, but I can’t help looking down.
She’s a silhouette, skinny shadow climbing up the wall,
Covering my eyes ‘til it’s dark and I can’t see at all.
I look out on the city late at night.
Buildings come together in a glowing pool of light.
Embers from a long-forgotten flame.
Turn my eyes to heaven, but it just don’t look the same.
It just don’t look the same, no.
It just don't look the same.
It just don’t look the same, no.
It just don’t —

Upper Hand

Hail Mary, it’s an endless game.
Where I live now, it don’t feel the same.
The darkness shivers and the wind does blow.
The endless days are night times by another name.
I’m learning to be by myself.
Left my sorrows where I last slept.
I’m tired of these shifting sands,
But here I am; I’m sure I’ve got the upper hand.
The sky’s spread out, black like a yawning mouth.
It opened up and the rain poured down.
Pools gathered on the empty streets and the sidewalks,
Tried to wash the whole thing out.
Morning comes and still I lie in bed.
I’m sure you know the feeling.
It’s hard to breathe when I think about what you said,
But I know we’ll all be forgiven.
I want you to know,
I want you to know,
That the sun still shines when you are gone,
When you are gone.
I want you to know,
I want you to know,
That the rain don’t fall when you are gone,
when you are gone.

She Said
04:10
|
|||
Your friends are gathered by the door.
They want to see you but they can’t take anymore.
Stumble down and there ain’t no way to hide:
All your sins are scattered on the floor.
We walk miles, our soles wear thin.
Down by the tips of your fingers there’s blood upon the skin.
Lost in a rainstorm, you can’t find your way.
The thought is killing me now, but I can’t see it.
We’re wide-eyed but weary, and we can’t explain.
I told you a lie that she said.
Took a cab to your house away from home.
Wanted to know when do you think you’ll be back.
You shook your head and you said you didn’t know.
Outside, spring bloomed behind the glass.
We speak circles, don’t let us in.
Down by the top of the stairs, you were born to fall again.
Lost in a rainstorm, you can’t find your way.
The thought is killing me now, but I can’t see it.
We’re wide-eyed but weary, and we can’t explain.
I told you a lie that she said.
